Surreal yet romantic gouage painting by unknown artist. Appropriately, this is a painting which stimulates strong emotions. Love it or hate it and nothing in between.
I'm ashamed to say that my daughter came out with the comment coined by Philistines through the ages..."I could have done that myself"...to which I replied..."But you didn't did you!" (You can guess which side of the love/hate line I stand!)
The style of the artist very much reminds me of the Ex-Voto and Retablo Paintings of Mexico. Naive and seemingly almost artless it has a real haunting quality.
Unfortunately there is no record of the name of the artist or even the date that it was painted (yet another similarity to the Mexican folk art tradition).
