Inscription reads 'Essex, Waltham Abbey, Built by Harrold 1060. Most of Abbey was demolished at the dissolution. The tower was built from the remains of the building in 1556-58'. I have just acquired six paintings by R. Flower-Ellis; each one as charming as the next. They date from the early '70s and this historic landscape is one of the earliest, dated 1977.
